In Ancient greece, there wasn't a big variety of clothes if you compare it to our clothes today. Two main types of clothing were the Doric chiton and the Lonic chiton. They had many colors such as yellow, brown, red, and sometimes blue. Women often had lots of different patterns. Women wore the traditional Doric chiton which was rectangular material and was longer in length. The Lonic chiton was also rectangular, but was wider and shorter. The top was closed with a button or seam, and was tied with a gurdle. Women also wore their hair in a large variety of styles. They would add ribbons or a scarf, and wore lots of jewelry. Men didn't have a whole lot of choices for clothing, they would wear a shorter version of the Lonic chiton, usually going down to the middle thigh. They would wear large cloaks when it was cold, but some men would wear a himation, a large square to wrap around their body. If they would travel, they would often wear a large hat, made of felt, called a petasos. Soldiers would wear a short chiton with armour over it.
Greek and Roman food compared to our food today is very different. Foods we have today, including potatoes, corn, chocolate, and bananas were unknown to the ancients. Common foods they ate were mostly wheat, barley, and vegetable products. Red meat was rare, but chicken, goose, and pork were what they ate. Some common flavors were honey, wine, olive oil, herbs, and spices. Symposias (feasts) were parties held at peoples homes. Only males were invited, and wives, young boys, and daughters of the house weren't allowed to come. The men ate well, drank, sang songs, and hired enterainment. They would play a traditional game called kottabos, where they flicked dregs of wine from their wine cups at a target. They wouldn't sit at the table, but on the couch, to lounge and eat.
